Cornerstone Food Bank participated in the recent US Postal Service Food Drive. We rented four 26-foot trucks which picked up donated non-perishable food items from 4 local post offices. Our volunteers started setting up that afternoon and the trucks started arriving at 5 p.m. Crews of volunteers unloaded the trucks and repacked the food into our own boxes and crates since we needed to return the postal service bins that night. The trucks went back for 2 or 3 additional loads each. It took until a little after 3 a.m. to finish. We had about 30 volunteers, but we could have used a lot more. All together we received almost 60,000 lbs. of food. This is far more than we have ever gotten before. Other years we have received anywhere from 6,000 to 14,000 lbs. It was a lot of work, but a very satisfactory result.
